Brief Description
This daytime Calligraphy course takes place in a relaxing environment in Coleridge Community College. The tutor has over 50 years experience of teaching and what he doesn’t know isn’t worth knowing!
The course will begin with a brief history of the development of pen lettering and a demonstration of the basic techniques of calligraphy. You will practice the basic cursive (handwriting) and formal ‘book hands’ (alphabets) and be shown how to layout and space your work. Practical work will help you to develop a good style which can be used in a variety of small jobs such as greeting cards, invitations and small notices.
Teaching Method: by demonstration, personal examples and individual tuition. Enrolments welcome throughout the year.
Previous Experience and Knowledge Needed?
No experience needed. This is a mixed ability course – all levels are welcome.
Learning Outcomes:
By the end of the course you will have the opportunity to:
• Learn about the history of calligraphy
• Gain practice in the basic cursive (hand writing)
• Gain practice in the formal ‘book hands’ (alphabets)
• Be introduced to the layout of lettering
• Understand the choice of suitable materials and equipment.
• Use the practical work undertaken to develop a good style which can be used in a variety of small jobs, such as greeting cards, invitations and small notices.
Extra costs on the course for example text book, materials or equipment:
A calligraphic fountain pen will be required. Paper and boards are provided.
For the first session you will need to bring:
Calligraphic fountain pen (left or right hand), pencil, ruler, rubber.
