Brief Description:

Learn the terminology and brush up on all those dressmaking techniques such as understitching, topstitching, sewing in different types of zips, buttonholes, and sleeves and much more. You won’t be creating an actual garment, but you will create samples of all these techniques during the three days.

Previous Experience and Knowledge Needed?

Knowing how to use a sewing machine is required. The course will feel more relevant if you have some prior experience of dressmaking.

Learning Outcomes:

By the end of the course, you will have the opportunity to:

Try out different seam finishes and when they are used. Know how to sew darts, invisible zips, basic zips, buttonholes, button loops, bias binding, gathers, set in sleeves, pattern matching and using twin needles.

Extra costs on the course for example text book, materials or equipment:

A short zip and a short invisible zip and twin needles.

For the FIRSt session you will need to bring:

Sewing machine and cable and all your usual sewing equipment. Scraps of non-stretch fabric for creating samples.

The college does have sewing machines available to use if you prefer not to bring your own.

Linda CouchLinda Couch works as a theatrical and re-enactment costume maker and bridal seamstress for over twenty years. Additionally, she has her own successful costume label Milly Maybe. She also teaches dressmaking and creative sewing workshops for all levels for both adults and children.
