Course details

“Course details have been changed from the original programme”. Contact the office with any queries.

This course is suitable for learners where English is not their first language.
This course will be taught online. To participate in online classes you will need an email address, a reliable internet connection, a computer/laptop/tablet with fully updated browser (preferably Google Chrome).

English is the language of international banking, the internet, and international trade and business.  Your English skills will define the jobs you can apply for in the UK, and improving those skills will help, not only in this country, but will greatly improve your employability and promotion prospects both here and in other countries, should you later travel further or return to your home country.  If you struggle to express yourself in certain professional situations, or even in social business contexts, this course will help.  It will partly be based around some of the particular needs of learners on that course, which we will discuss in the first lesson.

Poor English skills can have serious consequences – language misunderstandings can lead to the loss of money or angry clients.  Your inability to understand English chat and banter, or difficulty in translating your social skills into English can make you seem unfriendly, rude, or too reserved.  All these things are bad for your career.

This course is aimed at learners who have an upper intermediate to lower advanced level of English (B2 to C1) but struggle with certain aspects of their jobs, or even to get a job, because of limited English ability.  This course will help you improve your listening and spoken English, and your written English in order to gain employment, improve your confidence in certain situations, get promotion, or move into a different job with better pay and prospects.  You will also learn about UK work culture, how it may differ from that in other countries, and answer some of the questions you might have about the differences between your way of life and what you see around you in the UK.

Previous Experience and Knowledge Needed?

Ideally, you should have passed at least the First Certificate, or have an equivalent (B2/C1) level of English. If you are unsure of your level, an assessment test is needed for placement purposes. To book an appointment, call the office on 01223 712340.
