Cambridge English exams are recognised by over 25,000 universities, employers and governments around the world. The Cambridge First exam gives you a qualification at B2 or Upper-Intermediate level, and is the most popular of all of the Cambridge English exams. The exam can be done on computer or in written form, but the sessions are booked separately, on different dates. Speaking exams may also be on a different day to the written exams.
A Cambridge First qualification proves you have the language skills to live and work independently in an English-speaking country or to study on some courses taught in English. This course will offer preparation for the exam, if you wish to write it, or you can simply enjoy improving your English. All four skills – reading, writing, listening and speaking – will be developed and practised and in-depth exam training will be given. The course is fairly intensive, and you will need to set aside time for homework every week if you want to make real progress.
This 10 week course will be online. To participate in online classes you will need an email address, a reliable internet connection, a computer/laptop/tablet with fully updated browser (preferably Google Chrome).
You may find, as many learners do, that you will need more than one term’s tuition to be prepared for the exam (should you choose to write it.) If this is the case, you will be offered the opportunity to re-enrol and pay for further terms until you are confident of your ability to pass the exam or to use English at this level. How long it takes you to achieve this depends, of course, on your starting level and the amount of time you can dedicate to your studies.
The fee for this course does not include the exam fee and booking. This you will have to do yourself, when you feel confident that you are ready. Your teacher will also be happy to advise you on this.
To find information on exam centres offering this qualification and deadlines and dates for either the computer-based or written exam, please access the website: www.cambridgeenglish.org . You will also be able to access practice exam papers.
Previous Experience and Knowledge Needed?
You need a general English level of B1, Intermediate, or to have recently passed the PET exam. An assessment test is needed for placement purposes. If you have recently passed the PET exam, please bring in your certificate.

• gain a better understanding of some of the main grammatical features of English
• learn and practise a wide range of vocabulary in different situations
• practise writing some examples of essays, letters, reports etc.
• revise spelling, word building, collocations and phrasal verbs
• practise past papers and many examples of exam-style tasks
