Aims.

Through a structured and systematic approach, we aim to promote progress in basic spoken French and create a sense of achievement. The choice of situations and vocabulary is based on the everyday needs of people travelling to France.

Methodology.

Through a French specialist, there will be a two-hour face to face session once a week over a period of ten weeks.

This term is priced for 8 weeks, due to the amount of bank holidays in May.  The three bank holidays this term are: no class on 1st May (Early May Bank Holiday), 8th May (Bank Holiday for the coronation of King Charles lll), 29th May (Spring Bank Holiday and half term).

The work will be classroom based with an option to study further at home if the learner wishes. We will be following the TALK FRENCH series which gives excellent resources for learners to use, copy and adapt. This resource is made by the BBC and links into videos and other resources on BBC languages. If learners would like a copy, the ISBN is 978-1-4066-7890-1. We will use TALK FRENCH 1 for the initial 10-week beginner class.

This is the second unit of 10 weeks (learners should have completed either the first term or 20 hours prior learning). Should learners feel confident to move onto the next phase, there is one more unit of 10 weeks that will take place in the Summer Term. In these two phases we will use TALK FRENCH 2 and delve deeper into grammar and cultural elements of holidaying or living in France.

Proposed Programme of Study Per lesson:
1.   Il faut réserver a l’avance?    Local information, leisure interests and arranging an                                                     activity.

Homework and Assessment.

Home study will be on a voluntary basis and it is not essential in order to follow the lessons. Likewise there will be some in-class assessments so the learner can judge their progress but this course is not an assessed module and therefore will not contain any exams or graded assessments.

On completion of this course, what might your next steps be?

Learners will be able to proceed to an French Improvers course the following academic year.
