The Japanese have perfected to art of wrapping furoshiki over 400 years. Traditionally Furoshiki wraps were made from kimonos, nowadays you can purchase furoshiki wraps in a range of fabrics.
A furoshiki can be used to tie anything from books to odd shapes and make a wonderful alternative to the wasteful paper wrap version. In this day school you will learn several techniques and learn the fundamental knots needed to create secure and beautiful wrapped gifts.
This art form can feed into your daily life as you will learn how to use your furoshiki to create a comfortable shopping bag.
Previous Experience and Knowledge Needed?
Course objectives for the day:
- Learn about the history of furoshiki
- Introduce the idea of using cloth to wrap gift
- Be able to identify the type of knot needed for the wrapping style
For the first session you will need to bring….
Please bring a couple of small boxes, about the size of a small to medium gift box (about the size of a Christmas box of Biscuits) The tins or containers can be square, rectangle or round. If you have a wine bottle (empty is ok) please bring it along.
