Brief Description
Macramé has become very fashionable craft again and this is an introductory lesson on the basic knots and terms used. Following a short session on the basics we will go onto make a plant pot hanger.
Previous Experience and Knowledge Needed:
None required
Learning Outcomes:
On this course you will learn about:
- The basic macramé knots such as the lark’s head, the half hitch, the flat and solomon’s knot.
- The basic abbreviations used in patterns from places like Pinterest
- How to measure the macramé cord to make and finish basic plant pot holder
- If time allows look at ideas on making a trendy wall hanging
Extra costs on the course for example text book, materials or equipment:
A note book is useful along with a pair of scissors and a tape measure. The centre will provide the yarn for the hanger but you will need a ball of string for the practice.
The centre will also provide some pin boards to use, and the tutor will provide some strong pins.

Marion CurtisMarion Curtis has interests in many forms of textiles including weaving and bobbin lace. She taught art and design technology for over 30 years and more recently concentrating on her own design work and working to commission. Marion would describe herself as a ‘Modern Quilter’ where old designs are invigorated with contemporary fabrics. A regular participant in Cambridge Open Studios, a member of the newly formed Cambs Modern Quilt Guild (CMQG) and committee member of Cambridge Quilters. With her art and design background, Marion feels very confident she can draw out the ‘designer’ in you.
