Do you love textiles? Are you looking for a fun, relaxing day out? Then look no further. Adult Learn and Train is running a needle felting Summer School.
Here is your chance to meet up with like-minded people in a central Cambridge location, and take part in a needle felting course. You will learn the basics of this technique using wisps of soft fleece to create the most amazing three dimensional craft work in the form of a beautiful penguin.
There are limited places so don’t delay, book your place today.
During the first day you will learn how to shape the felt
On the second day you will:
• Make wings, the beak and the feet
• Learn to shape the needle felt, as you progress
• Make the main body and attached beads for eyes, or use fleece
• Attach the body parts together, so that there aren’t any seams.
YOU WILL NEED TO PROVIDE:
- Small thin pliers
- Small fabric scissors
- A thimble
- A craft knife
- A skewer
- Beading and embroidery needles
THE TUTOR WILL PROVIDE:
- A felting block, sponge or a block of polystyrene (This will need to be returned to me)
- A felting needle – size 36
- Black thread
- Two black beads
- Merino wool in black, white and yellow
There will be a fee of £8 to cover the costs of equipment and materials payable to the tutor on the day.
On completion of this course, what might your next steps be?
A follow-on two day workshop – the tutor will let you know what courses are available.
Adult Learn and Train offer courses through-out the year.
Try similar courses or maybe look at learning something completely new.
You will find provision on some Saturday and Sundays, you will also find courses available in the day and evening at different venues in Cambridge. Courses vary in length from one-off sessions to 10 weeks or more.

Lisa FretwellMy name is Lisa E Fretwell. I have been teaching art, glass and textile techniques for over 20 years. In the past, I have exhibited my work in New York, had a touring exhibition around the UK, and exhibited Gallery and non-Gallery venues in Hertfordshire, Leicester, London and Northamptonshire. I was involved involved in the publishing of a new book called ‘Antarctic Atlas,’ which includes my hand drawn illustrations. I am currently making hand drawn illustrated cards to create funding for a Hedgehog charity called Hoggywobbles in Cambridgeshire. Since 2012 I have been teaching Art History, Stained Glass and felt making in Cambridge. I sold some original illustrations with Bonham's Auctioneer's from our book, Antarctic Atlas, at St. Bride's Foundation, London in June 2023..
