Course details

Brief Description:

This 4 day Silver Jewellery workshop will start with learning how to shape and solder two simple silver rings and end with you being able to create your own pieces of silver jewellery using the skills learned.

Each day you will progress your knowledge and skills learnt.

Within the 4 days you will get to:

  • Make a spinner our fidget ring
  • Learn how to use a piercing saw to pierce out shapes from silver sheet
  • Learn granulation technique
  • Learn how to make a bezel for cabochon stones
  • Have an introduction to claw setting
  • Have an introduction to filigree.

Previous Experience and Knowledge Needed?

No previous skills or knowledge needed as the workshop will take you from beginner to being able to design and create your own jewellery using the skills learned

Learning Outcomes:

By the end of the course, you will have the opportunity to:

  • Recognise and handle silversmithing tools safely.
  • Practice metal forming, wire bending, soldering, and rub-over stone setting techniques
  • Prepare silver prior to soldering or polishing
  • Experiment with methods for adding texture and different finishing techniques
  • Develop skills in forming, annealing and pickling metal to shape a flat band ring.
  • Develop skills in twisting silver wire for decorative effect
  • Be able to make a spinner for a fidget ring

Extra costs on the course for example text book, materials or equipment:

There is a cost in the course fee for £45 of materials for the day. If you choose to make something larger or wish to use move materials the tutor will discuss the extra cost with you; any extra fee will be payable direct to the tutor on the day.

For the first session you will need to bring:

Please bring a pen, pencil and note book. Tools will be provided but feel free to bring your own. Please bring an apron.
