Brief Description:
Ever wanted to learn how to paint? This course is designed for complete beginners and for those of you who have a little experience of watercolour painting. You will be taught the essential skills of watercolour painting, you will be able to transfer these skills to any style of watercolour painting, both traditional and contemporary. You will be able to progress at your own pace.
The course is priced per 9 weeks (one term); you may find, as many learners do, that you will want to continue for more than 9 weeks; if this is the case you will be offered the opportunity to re-enrol and pay for another term.
Previous Experience and Knowledge Needed?
No experience necessary, this course is designed for both complete beginners and those with a little experience.
Learning Outcomes:
By the end of the 9 week course you will be able to:
• Experiment with application techniques
• Paint a variety of subject matter, both from photo references and from life
• Recognise basic shapes
• Learn and apply new terminology to express ideas and intentions
• Identify forms and masses
Extra costs on the course for example text book, materials or equipment
In the first lesson your tutor will discuss papers, brushes and paints and a ‘materials shopping list’ will be provided for those of you who do not already have your own and who need to purchase some materials. Some materials are available to purchase at the class (e.g. paper).
For the first session you will need to bring:
Pencil – HB or 2B
Shopping list to be discussed in the class:
Brushes – two good quality watercolour brushes (round) sizes 6 and 10 (or similar sizes) and a wash brush,
Paints – watercolour paints in tubes or flat pans (the differences will be explained during the first lesson):
Suggested colours – Alizarin Crimson, Cadmium Red; Cadmium Yellow Pale, Ultramarine Blue, Cobalt Blue (useful additional colours will be discussed during the course)
Watercolour paper (Saunders Waterford or Langton or Bockingford, NOT surface, minimum weight 300gsm/140lb) a pad, loose sheets or a block (minimum A4).
White plastic or ceramic palette, scrap paper for testing colours. Sketch book (A4 or A3 size)
