Lisa Fretwell (for brain training)
Lisa E Fretwell has worked as an artist and teacher for over 20 years. Initially, she worked as a Drama teacher in a school, and taught ‘Movement and mime’ classes to adults and children. It was great fun, and the adults liked it more than the children! Since then, she has been illustrating and editing books, one of which is due to be published in October 2025 by Penguin. She also teaches feltmaking, stained glass and art history at various centres in Cambridgeshire

Brief Description
Did you enjoy playing games as a kid? Do you like quizzes, reading, and meeting new people? How would you like to do all of the above in a new class starting this September?
In this class, you’ll learn to think in entirely new ways, test your observation skills, and have a lot of fun! This class is all about looking, listening, and reacting to what others do in a playful, safe environment. This is drama, but not in the traditional sense—no scripts, just pure imagination. It will challenge your observation skills, encourage you to think creatively, and help you make new friends along the way. If you need some fun in your life and want to improve your memory while getting a bit of exercise (mainly from laughing), come and join this class!
Previous Experience and Knowledge Needed?
No experience necessary. Just an interest in doing something fun!
How you will learn:
- ‘Looking’ games – testing your observation skills, in a group.
- Using props, the room and your imagination to answer questions
- Working in groups or pairs
- Taking part in treasure hunts, and other thought provoking games
- Using your imagination
- Using colour, words and your memory as you interact with others
- Improvisation is key!
Extra costs on the course for example textbook, materials or equipment
None! You just need to bring yourself and your imagination!
On completion of this course, what might your next steps be?
A follow-on course focusing on word association games.
The Adult Learn and Train office is able to give course information or search for alternative courses for you.
Adult Learn and Train offer courses through-out the year. Try similar courses or maybe look at learning something completely new. You will find provision on some Saturday and Sundays, you will also find courses available in the day and evening at different venues in Cambridge. Courses vary in length from one-off sessions to 10 weeks or more.
