PLEASE NOTE THIS COURSE HAS CHANGED FROM A THURSDAY TO A WEDNESDAY EVENING
Shed those winter blues by learning how to make the most of spring cut flowers with seasonal cut flower and twig floral designs.
On this fun course you will use flower arranging and floristry techniques to create beautiful floral designs for a number of occasions for the spring festive season. Be amazed at what you can create using readily available bulb flowers and branches. We will work with wet floral foam and vases to create a variety of floral designs including table centre pieces, themed work and floristry. Some prior flower arranging experience will be of benefit. Materials for week 1 are included in the course fee.
Previous Experience and Knowledge Needed?
A love of flowers. Some knowledge of flower arranging or floristry will be an advantage ie prior course or workshop or have made flowers for friends
By the end of this course the participants will be able to:
● Create stylish traditional and modern, seasonal and festive floral designs
● Understand how to buy and prepare seasonal spring flowers to maximise their cut flower life
● Gain confidence and experience handling a variety of seasonal flower and spring branches
● Employ secure floral mechanics in your arrangements
● Estimate the commercial cost of a design
About Your Tutor:
Helen Allen has many years’ experience in floral design with her creations appearing in international magazines. She won ‘student of the year’ for her ANC floristry exam. Being freelance as ‘Verdila flowers’ she teaches to many different groups including sheltered schemes, and is busy with wedding and event work especially in the summer months.
Extra costs on the course for example text book, materials or equipment:
You will provide your own flowers and foliage each week although the tutor can provide some flowers and foliage for a reasonable price.
Expect to pay around £10 a week for flowers although actual price will depend upon the design and where you shop. It will be much less if you have your own foliage or flower and berry source.
A starter pack containing containers used on the course, basic floristry equipment, foam, dish, tape, wires etc. may be purchased at the start of the course for your convenience at approx. £15. Floristry scissors are available to order for £8.00 if desired.
For the first session you will need to bring:
Your fee includes the cost of materials for the first weeks design.
Strong scissors, bin bag, notebook and pen, camera (optional) to record work completed in class, an apron, hand wipes
Also a crate or semi rigid bag (eg supermarket bag) to transport your design.
On completion of this course, what might your next steps be?
There is a Summer Floral design course in the Summer term.
