Brief Description

Have you ever wondered how glass is made and put together? Here is your chance to try a unique glass technique called ‘copperfoil,’ invented by Louis Comfort Tiffany which revolutionised the way that glass was made and put together. Small scale, delicate pieces can be made using this method. You will need a steady hand and lots of patience to learn this technique, but the results will be well worth the effort! You will create a unique and beautiful stained glass mirror using clear textured glass during this course.

Previous Experience and Knowledge Needed?

No experience necessary. Just lots of patience and a steady hand!

Learning Outcomes:

The 8 week course will be organised in the following way:

  • Design skills Brief history of glass/makers
  • Glass cutting methods Grinding & soldering
  • Copperfoil technique Health & safety

About Your Tutor:

Lisa Fretwell has worked as an artist and teacher for 18 years exhibiting glass & paintings in Leicester, London and Hertfordshire up until 2000. Now I focus primarily on teaching.

Extra costs on the course / you will need to provide:

• Images for inspiration
● A permanent pen
● An apron, which is fabric or plastic coated
● A small mdf board with two raised edges (for cutting glass on) – available in centre
● A pair of pliers (some are available to use in class)
● an empty margarine pot or a sheet of glass with masking tape around the edge (for easy transportation of glass)

For the first session you will need to bring:

You will need to bring, pencil & pen and A4 paper, images for inspiration and a pair of grozing or standard pliers if you have them.

On completion of this course, what might your next steps be?
