Brief Description
Use the skills you’ve learned so far to impress friends and family with gifts or start your own business. You will develop your silver jewellery skills and knowledge, building on previous learning.
Throughout the course, you will develop skills in design, soldering, piercing with a jewellery saw, filing and polishing.
Previous Experience and Knowledge Needed?
Manual dexterity is needed. This is the second term of the beginners course. Some experience is necessary.
Learning Outcomes:
By the end of this course, participants will be able to:
• Handle and recognise silversmithing tools safely.
• Practice metal forming, wire bending, soldering, and rub-over stone setting techniques.
• Develop skills in forming, annealing and pickling metal to shape a flat band ring.
• Prepare silver prior to soldering or polishing.
• Apply techniques learned to make items of silver jewellery.

The tutor will advise regarding purchasing silver for the course.
For the first session, you will need to bring:

Please note: There are no materials fee included in the cost of the course – The tutor will advise you where to order from – costs will be about £25 per term depending on what you make.

John RothwellI have been a self-employed silversmith jeweller for over 19 years. Since leaving the School of Jewellery in 1996 I have had my own shop, have sent my jewellery all around the world, and even had my jewellery at the NEC Clothes Show. I have taught adults with Learn and Train at various community colleges for over 10 years. Courses have included Beginners, Intermediate and City & Guilds silver smithing and jewellery making courses.
