Have you ever tried Japanese bread? In this class in Cambridge, you will learn how to bake Japanese bread using ingredients available in the UK.
Japanese bread is fluffy and moist because it contains a lot of water. This makes the baking process slightly different from that for UK bread.
Let’s enjoy baking tasty, gorgeous Japanese bread!
On the day we will bake:
On the day we will bake Cream-pan (custard cream filled buns).
This is one of the most famous sweet bread loved by all generations. Unlike a cream puff, cream-pan has a soft and brioche-like texture. Freshly baked, still warm cream-pan is so soft and sweet, I am sure once you try it, you will surely fall in love with it.
PREVIOUS EXPERIENCE AND KNOWLEDGE NEEDED?
None. This course is suitable for beginners or anyone interested in making Japanese style bread
LEARNING OUTCOMES:
By the end of the course, you will be able to:
- Learn how to make rich and creamy custard cream from scratch
- Learn the basics of kneading bread dough
- Learn the appropriate amount of ingredients
- Determination of proper fermentation state of bread
- Learn how to bake various variations of bread
- Learn Japanese culture

An-pan or sweet red bean bun is a soft round Japanese bread that has sweetened Adzuki bean (An-ko; Japanese word) paste filling. It is a classic Japanese pastry and always ranks high on the list of favourite breads for Japanese people. If you’re a lover of Japanese red bean treats, you will love these buns.
We will bake 2 kinds of An-pan during the session.
1) An-ko filling buns x 3
2) An-ko with soft cream cheese filling buns x 3
