Brief Description:
This is the third term of the Japanese course for beginners – following on from the September – December and January – March courses. You will develop basic speaking and listening skills in everyday situations, to read and write Hiragana and Katakana as well as recognise some Kanji, to help you speak with confidence.
This term is priced for 8 weeks, due to the amount of bank holidays in May. Please note there are three bank holidays: no class on 1st May (Early May Bank Holiday), 8th May (Bank Holiday for the coronation of King Charles lll), 29th May (Spring Bank Holiday and half term).
Previous Experience and Knowledge Needed?
Not suitable for absolute beginners. You should have studied for 40 hours.
Learning Outcomes:
- change money and ways of paying
- find a hotel room (Western and Japanese style)
- book ahead by phone
- check in at reception
- ask about facilities
- find out about train times
- buy tickets
- take a taxi
- eat out
- dealing with emergency

Wherever possible continuation courses will be offered. The beginners level runs for 3 terms. We only take payment for one term at a time, if you wish to continue you will be given the option to re-enrol later in the term.
After the 3 terms the college will offer an Improvers level.
Adult Learn and Train offer courses through-out the year.
Try similar courses or maybe look at learning something completely new.
You will find provision on some Saturday and Sundays , you will also find courses available in the day and evening at different venues in Cambridge. Courses vary in length from one-off sessions to 10 weeks or more.

This Japanese course is for learners who have completed a Beginners course and two terms of the Improvers course; and have had the opportunity to develop basic Japanese conversation skills and can read and write Hiragana and Katakana and some kanji. You will build up more speaking, listening, and reading and writing skills with proper grammar and sentence structure. On completion of this course you will be ready for the Japanese Language Proficiency Test (JLPT) N 5.
The course is priced for one term; to complete the full course and cover all the learning outcomes listed below you will need to attend all 3 terms (there is no obligation to attend more than one term).
