Brief Description:
Brush up on many of the frequently used dressmaking techniques such as seam finishes, understitching, topstitching, sewing in a zip, bias binding and buttonholes. You won’t be creating an actual garment, but you will create samples of all these techniques.
Previous Experience and Knowledge Needed?
Knowing how to use a sewing machine and having basic dressmaking skills are required. It is not suitable for complete beginners.
Learning Outcomes:
By the end of the course, you will have the opportunity to:
- Draft a basic skirt pattern
- Be able to adapt the pattern for other skirt styles.
- Be able to add seam allowance, facings, pockets to the skirt sewing pattern.
Extra costs on the course, for example text textbook, materials or equipment:
Half a meter of calico or other non stretch fabric to make a toile of the skirt, which you need to bring with you to the class.

The college has machines available to use, you can bring your own sewing machine if you prefer with all your usual sewing equipment, including a tape measure and fabric scissors.
