Brief Description:

Have you ever wanted to improve your Italian? Then this Italian Lower Advanced course is for you! The course is for those who have already a good knowledge of the Italian language.

By the end of the course you will be familiar with the structure of the Italian language and have a sufficient vocabulary that will allow you to communicate with native speakers in most everyday situations. The language will be taught in the context of the social, cultural and historical aspects of Italy.

A variety of activities will be used, including dialogue development, listening practice, grammar exercises and focus work on cultural aspects of Italy. The course will be based on communicative methods and active participation will be strongly encouraged. There will be regular homework to consolidate what has been learnt in class and to assess your progress. The course is priced for 10 weeks (one term); to complete the full course and cover all the learning outcomes listed below you will need to attend all 3 terms (there is no obligation to attend more than one term).

 

Previous Experience and Knowledge Needed?

It is advised to have completed an intermediate course; some previous knowledge of Italian is expected.

 

Learning Outcomes:

Throughout the year, the course will cover the following topics:

● tell an event

● talk about the past

● describe a person

● express your own view or disagree

● describe emotions

● critisize

● talk about food

● transfer information

 

In the second term:

● express percent values

● report an historical fact

● discuss points of views

● talk about your job

● request something formally

● courtesy form

● communicate, express desire

 

In the third term

● Use language according to context

● talking about oneself

● complain

● Interview somebody

 

And in terms of grammar structures:

● the past tense (passato prossimo)

● indefinitives

● verbs with prepositions

● indirect speech

● use of conditional

● anterior future

● double negatives

● direct and indirect pronouns

● concordance of verbs

Nuovo Espresso no.3 and Nuovo Espresso no.4 - Alma publisher (there is no need to buy the associated DVDs - unless one wants to buy them anyway)

On completion of this course, what might your next steps be?

Learners will be able to proceed to the Italian Advanced course after three terms.
