Brief Description:
A single section binding is the basis of Western bookbinding. It is fairly easy to bind a single section but you have to understand how to handle materials and tools to achieve a good result. We are going to use an A2 sheet of paper, linen thread. We also handle a bookbinding knife and needle.
The tutor will give you a brief history of Western and Japanese bookbinding which will give you some insights of development of books and various writing tools.
For a comparison, you will be introduced to a traditional Japanese book binding which is also fairly easy to make. We will use Japanese paper and cotton thread.
In this day school you will be handling sharp tools so you must listen to health and safety instructions and take care in handling tools for your safety.
