You will be set work each week and will be required to complete it and submit via Google classroom / photo or scan to your tutor before the following lesson.
The classes are generally small, delivered to suit your starting point and assessments are offered through City and Guilds after 55 hours teaching. You will need to complete an initial assessment prior to starting the course, where it will be discussed if you meet the criteria for a funded place.

The course runs term-time (no classes during school holidays) from 6th October 2020 until the end of May 2021; there will be an opportunity to sit assessments after 55 hours of lessons (usually May).
To gain an ESFA funded place you will need to complete an assessment of eligibility, undertake an initial diagnostic assessment and are required to complete the appropriate enrolment form. Funding is linked to 90% attendance and completion of the set homework tasks. Failure to meet these criteria means that funding is withdrawn and you will be liable for the full cost of the course. You will be assessed through the lessons and by homework.
PREVIOUS EXPERIENCE AND KNOWLEDGE NEEDED?
No previous experience required. All learners are required to complete an initial assessment / screening of English levels prior to enrolment on the course – please telephone the office on 01223 712340 to make an appointment.

BRIEF DESCRIPTION:
Do you need to update your CV? Did you not achieve your English qualification through school? Are you 19 years old or over?
This is a one year course that will enable you to take the GCSE exam in June* 2021.Classes will start online. You must be able to join in with ‘Google Meet’ or ‘Google classroom’ at the time the course takes place. You will need a device to access the lessons and WIFI.
When possible the class will move to face to face provision at Parkside Community College.
The course is assessed via two final exams, which cover: Reading of texts (50%), Creative Writing (20%) and Persuasive/Transactional Writing (20%). It is also necessary to give a presentation or speech. Please follow the link to the specification for the Welsh Board paper here: https://www.eduqas.co.uk/qualifications/english-language/gcse/
Please note: as with all new-style GCSEs, grades A* – U have been replaced with levels 9 – 1. There is no tier for English GCSE so all grades are available. A Level 4 is a ‘standard pass’ (equivalent to the old grade C); a level 5 is a ‘good pass’.
Each week regular homework will be given which is directly linked to the class session and completion of this will enable you to make sense of the class work and for you to prepare for the exams. Good organisation will help you to get the most from the course. You will need to keep notes, be able to proofread and check writing tasks for errors and to speak in front of others in an assessed environment. Classes are informal, and work very much on a communal basis where all are invited to share their viewpoints and ideas.
This is a challenging exam and you must already be proficient at correctly using punctuation, grammar and spellings.
The course runs the whole year, including school holidays.
A full schedule of confirmed dates will be given on the first session
You will need to attend tuition sessions on some Saturdays, the dates which have been agreed with the teacher but may be *subject to change are:-
5th Dec / 9th Jan / 6th Feb / 27th Mar / 15th May
PLUS 20 hours mandatory online content
GCSE English is expected to take between 120 and 140 hours of study – you will attend taught classes for 105 hours, and complete an additional 20 hours mandatory on-line content and the remaining hours are delivered through set homework tasks which will be marked and are a compulsory part of the course. It is vital that you can access the
internet (with sound) regularly in order to access your learning materials. Some of you will need to spend more time self-studying to bring your skills up to the required level.
To gain an ESFA funded place you will need to complete an assessment of eligibility, undertake an initial diagnostic assessment and are required to complete the appropriate enrolment form. Brief Description:
Similar to Yoga, Pilates concentrates on posture, balance and flexibility. In Pilates the chance of injury is much lower than with other more strenuous forms of exercise.
Pilates also focuses on the mind-body connection and breathing.
Pilates was invented by Joseph Pilates as an exercise program for injured dancers and soldiers while living in the UK. Joseph Pilates believed that physical and mental health were closely connected.
Pilates Intermediate/Improvers is a continuation of Pilates Improvers class delivered in Cambridge. It incorporates exercises to help improve posture, mobility, muscular strength and breathing technique. Each session will aim to build and develop on from the previous session. This workout is designed to help participants develop leaner, longer-looking muscles, establish core strength and stability and heighten mind-body awareness.
Class numbers are limited which gives you an opportunity to interact and be corrected by your tutor.
Because Pilates can be modified to provide either a gentle strength training program or a challenging workout, most people would have no problem with this form of exercise.
The health benefits include:
Good posture – Pilates will teach you to gain and maintain good posture. The exercises require that your body is always in alignment. This is especially beneficial if you suffer from lower back pain.
Muscle Tone – The exercises involve the use of muscles that you may not use on a daily basis. After the initial soreness, you’ll find that your muscles will be much more toned
Stronger abdominal muscles – Pilates focuses on strengthening your core which includes your abdominal muscles, you’ll find that one of the benefits of Pilates is that it will result in a flat stomach.
Flexibility – Pilates will restore your flexibility
Improves your balance – Through the mind-body connection which is taught in Pilates you will become much more aware of how your body moves and performs. Therefore Pilates not only improves your physical balance through correct posture but will also restore your mind-body balance.
Gives you a general sense of well-being – Because Pilates focuses on providing balance between your mind and body it gives you an overall sense of well-being.
Previous Experience and Knowledge Needed?
40-50 hours tuition
Learning Outcomes:
By the end of the course, you will have the opportunity to:
